Preparing to do the Geek thing.
11 July 2003

I’ve been playing too many video games lately. They’re not really keeping me from getting anything done that I have to get done, but I’ve been playing alot. The fact here is that with the PCs in the house, the X-Box, the Mame Cab, etc. we have every opportunity availiable to promote a great deal of brain-rot. Life is good.

Josh and I are starting out little contesting spree in about 7 hours. For those of you who missed the previous posts, we’re doing an HF contest this weekend, mainly for the purpose of getting Josh familiar with the hardware and software so that we can be prepared for larger contests later this semester.

Now this is all fine and dandy, but I’ve got a bit of a dilemma. First, I’m really competitive, and I like to win. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing, but the fact is that once I start a contest, I usually won’t quit until its over. In this case that’s Sunday morning at 7:00. So where’s the dilemma you ask?

Well, the truth is that my wonderful girlfriend has been out of town for the past week and I haven’t gotten to see her. If I do this contest thing, I won’t get to see her until Sunday evening and even then just for a few hours. I’m torn. All you romantic types out there would say ‘man, you just gotta do what you gotta do for the girl.’ I agree, and in most cases thats where I am. But here’s the problem: we have a really good chance of winning a big contest later this semester, but in order to do so we need all the practice we can get.

I guess it’ll all come down to how the contest is going Saturday afternoon. If things are slow and we’re not doing well, I’ll probably close up shop and go for the babe. If for some strange reason we’re doing really well, I might just hang in there for the 24. I’m sure my girlfriend will love me either way, but the point is that I really want to see her as well. Harumph.
