APRS Station Running and Stable

I finally have the Automatic Position Reporting System setup in my car working reliably. For all of you technophiles out there, it consists of a Canadian Marconi OEM GPS board, a Tiny Trak III NMEA to AX.25 packet converter, and an old Icom IC-26H. The setup is in my car full time for now, which means that you can see where my car is at just about any time. Click on the where link to see a map of my position. If you then click on the links inside that window you will get some better maps as well as some of the other goodies that findu.com has to offer.

So what is the point of all this you ask? Well, really because its just a fun use of technology and I like to play with this sort of thing. But there are other advantages. If my car gets stolen I’ll know where it is. If I am out storm chasing, I can have someone look me up with my position overlayed on a radar map, so that they can help me to be in the safest spot. If I am helping out with any public service event through amateur radio, APRS is many times needed. Plus I just think its cool.
