For those like me who hadn’t heard, you may be entitled to a free replacement battery if yours is in a certain lot. From the report: “The battery pack can experience a short circuit causing it to overheat and possibly melt, posing a potential hazard to consumers. ... If you have an EN-EL3 battery pack with one of the lot numbers listed above, you should immediately stop using it and remove the battery pack from the battery compartment.” (Emphasis theirs)
In fact, my battery is a Lot 48AG, so I’m going to have to send it in. I’m not too privy to being out of service for a couple of weeks, but I guess it’s better than the battery shorting and ruining the camera.
