As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve gotten a bit obsessed with Moblogging lately. It is just fun to take pics on the camera phone and know that they are out there for the world to see while I’m still sitting there experiencing it. Not that the world stops by here often, but it’s out there anyway. Plus, I find it harder and harder to take the time to write anything these days.
For you wondering how the move went, we did pretty good. We left my parent’s home in Weatherford at 7AM two days after Christmas, and made it to Tucson in about 15 hours. We spent the night there, and headed out first thing the next morning. After Beau pulled off some fancy driving in L.A. traffic, we rolled into Pasadena just before 2PM PST. Total time behind the wheel: 21.5 hours, with an extra hour and a half of gas and food stops.
We had lunch with Katie during her lunch break, grabbed the apartment key from her, and spent the afternoon unloading the UHaul in the rain. Quick trips from the truck to the covered area next to the elevator kept things fairly dry, with some help from a couple of dollies owned by the apartment complex. A few hours later everything was moved in and more or less arranged, and Katie made it back pretty soon thereafter.
Yesterday we took a drive into the mountains and tried to stay out of the rain as best as possible. Los Angeles has received over 9 inches of rain in the last 4 days. It looks like that is finally over, just in time for the Tournament of Roses Parade.
Today we walked and shopped a bit, watching the crazy parade-goers getting set up and camped out on the streets along the parade route. Most of them were in lawn chairs without much more than blankets, and they’ll be there all night with temperatures dipping into the upper 30’s. We’re nestled away in Katie’s apartment, about 3 blocks from the parade route and about 30 degrees warmer. We’ll head down there in the morning and try to get a glimpse as some of the floats go by – once we do I’m sure a moblog or two will come of it.
